Sacrarium
“To March To An Inviolable Death”

After years of predominant death/black & post-black metal to discover a band able to reawaken the darker and most medieval scenario of the ’90 is a special surprise. Sacrarium debut album has to be compared with the riffing of the early Abigor’s albums. Melodic guitar lines supported by a violent rhythmic aggression draw the listener to evade once again from rotten reality and face a new dimension of demise and tragedy. The French will raise again the cup of blood shed by the immortal enemies, a timeless dimension to abuse and overcome the borders of reality. For fans of Abigor & Gorgoroth.

Lustre
“A Glimpse Of Glory”

Eldritch, boundless desolation, awe-inspiring in its profundity, blanching in its focus, an experience like no other. Awash in mile-high walls of hypnotic, hypothermic synths, the three epic tracks comprising the album idiosyncratically fuse together arcane elements of black metal, dark ambient, pagan metal, and funeral doom, glacial in drift and towering in its vision. Imagine Burzum’s Dunkelheit crossed with Summoning’s Stronghold, but spawned in the same studio environs Skepticism uses: perhaps then you will catch A Glimpse of Glory.

Empty

“The House Of Funerary Hymns”

In 1995 Maligner and B. Sanety decided to make their own band so to satisfy their darkest musical feelings: Empty was then formed. In 1997 Drizzt joined the newly formed band to play the bass. Last November and December Empty performed a mini-tour throughout Spain and played a gig in Madrid with Immortal and Primordial. In the middle of winter in 2001, “A source of Hollow Essence” was recorded and then released in 2002. “The Last Breath Of My Mortal Despair” followed on in 2005, showing the Empty’s most negative and depressive side, but being more Black Metal than ever. This new chapter in the band’s career confirms Empty’s unique ability to craft funereal moods by shaping Black Metal into a painful perception of decay. After a 14-year music career, Empty can be deemed as the father of this “genre”, as the band inspires feelings of inner darkness in a very personal way and is firmly rooted in its own style of playing without being affected by the plasticization of contemporary Black Metal scene. The macabre old-fashioned grotesque cover by Chris Moyen puts the final nail in the putrescent coffin of emptiness.

Lustre
“Night Spirit”

Featuring an Ex-Hypothermia member Lustre is a Naturalistic Black Metal act from Sweden in the purest form. The magic of the ’90s is brought back by an untainted act marked by dark feelings and reminding us the early Summoning evocative strength. Landscapes and visions of thoughtful solitude evoke the melancholy of a lost time, when obscure majesty was subsumed under an epic saga. Obscurantist rawness of the early years is seen through the eyes of a Northern-land wanderer: Lustre can really make time turn back to forgotten ages.

Raven (Forgotten Woods)
“The Murder Sessions”

Born in 1993, this never released before on CD recordings are a piece of history of True Norwegian Black Metal, involving Rune Vedda, one of the Forgotten Woods masterminds. “TMS” proves the unbelievable primeval strength that this revolutionary genre can express. All blacksters simply can’t ignore this milestone… And today’s wannabe extreme listeners may be affected both by vicious, sick and abrasive feelings of sharpened guitars and by a kind of inhuman atmosphere pervading the whole album. Far from today’s music standards and double-faced sound professionalism, conceived when Black Metal was just instinct and hunger and to express the dramatic and primeval force of this genre, “The Murder Sessions” is not only one of the sickest releases ever from Norway, but also proves and “reports” how a direct musical approach has been the boundless strength of Black Metal since ever. Here’s where the word cult has to lie down, under the veil of the cold wind.

Lantlos
“Lantlos”

The cold calling of our dying modernity, featuring the Geist’s singer the German band Lantlos is able to shape tasteful black metal and to switch inside their creation acoustic passages with a result that recalls of Ved Buens Ende’s “For Those Who Caress the Pale” and Amoesoeurs. Lantlos is a Distorted Aesthetic in the gloomy and fucked up obscure decadence, powerful disharmonic feeling is the artist’s palette to draw the listener to perdition and what may become a fatal introspection.

The rawness of the underground meets with spontaneity a submerged avant-garde mood for a band that will be able to gift the most sensitive side of the extreme crowd with their personal vision of the grey sub-audible.

Son of the hallucinated introspection, nights longer than life, wandering in a cemetery soul, this project is a poisoned chemistry of Depressive Black Metal and hypnotic negativity. Don’t expect anyway today’s bed-room bands but real project instrumentally human of an individual tremendously aware of the material limits and the body-cage. Let the void manifest, Those who are into the early Shining material will submit to this self-destruction.

Empty was formed in 1995 in the glory days for Black Metal when Maligner and B. Sanety decided to make a band in order to satisfy their darkest musical feelings. After a long wandering in the underground in 2000 finally songs composed between 95-99 was put on the “Eternal Cycle of Decay” demo, and in 2001 “A source of Hollow Essence” their debut album was released, impressing for his monumental sombre atmosphere.

No doubt that “The Last Breath Of My Mortal Despair” is to be considered as the higher peak of the band with his amplification of the grey and depressive shadings but still remaining into the cold and sinister Black Metal feeling of the early days. Graveyards, nothing but Graveyards…

Essential for those into Shining, early Forgotten Tomb, Beatrik.
